‘Biggest Funfair on the Rhine’: 18 - 26 July 2009

From 18 - 26 July the marksmen club St. Sebastianus Schützenverein 1316 e.V. celebrates the most venerable event of the regional capital: the ‘Biggest Funfair on the Rhine’ on the Oberkassel Rheinwiesen offering magnificent vistas of the picturesque old town.

The highlight is the big funfair fireworks display on Friday, 24 July. In the course of the nine-day event up to 4.5 million visitors are expected. For the first time the Convention Bureau Düsseldorf recommends the event as an adventurous accompanying programme for corporate conferences as well as a new incentive module.

Thrills, nostalgia and delicacies make the funfair on the over 40 acres large festival ground located directly on the Rhine a unique experience for visitors of  all ages. Looping roller coaster, a spectacular freefall tower and an adventurous wild water log flume are only some of the attractions provided by the 350 fairground entertainers from Germany and abroad who aim to make your adrenalin soar.

Quite an event has also become the ‘Rosamontag’: For approximately 20 years gays and lesbians from near and far have made the funfair Monday even more dazzling. Of course in the festival tents of the five Düsseldorf home breweries the typical local Altbier is served. The spectacular funfair fireworks display starts on July 24th after sunset, attracting many further visitors.
